It was a wonderful night which all young past students of Jaffna Hind College were expecting. We started the celebration at around 5.30 pm at Veerasingham Hall, which is one of the historical landmarks in Jaffna. The hall decoration by the organizers of the Alumni Fiesta was awesome and the visitors felt like they were in Kumaraswamy Hall. The hall was covered with Blue and White curtains and number of bunches Helium Balloons in both blue and white color.
Nearly 60 round tables, covered with white table cloth with 6 chairs each, made the look of that hall as a huge restaurant. The red carpet, with palm-tree pots in both side along its length, laid between the entrance and the small stage made the participants feel that they were set for a huge occasion.

The red carpet, with palm-tree pots in both side along its length, laid between the entrance and the small stage made the participants feel that they were set for a huge occasion.
While everyone was amazed at the arrangements at the hall and guessing the programs, around 5.45, the guests came into the hall and the occasion was about to began with Traditional Oil Lamp Lightening. The guests and representatives from each batch (2010-2006) participated in lightening the Oil Lamp. There were two announcers doing their announcing thing in coordination. Then “Thvaram” sung by Mr.Nirushan followed by 2 minutes of silence prayer for all the expired past-students of our college.
Following the traditional starting events of a function, they straight away invited the organizer of the Alumni Fiesta-II, Mr.T.Suganthan, for his address. Suganthan mentioned that since this has to be considered as a function organized by Past students of Jaffna Hindu College to themselves, they took the welcome speech out of the agenda this time. And that announcement was warmly welcomed by the audience. Furthermore, Mr.Suganthan wants to ensure the purpose of the event and its intention towards school. He regretted to the fact that Youth Wing, which had been inaugurated at the Alumni-Fiesta 2011, had done nothing towards the school’s development. But he was pretty sure about announcing a project towards the school’s development, with the help of senior old students, very soon. He also stated that, since this youth wing is crowded by recent pass out students from our college, it is really hard to find working Old Boys in the youth wing. So Youth Wing will have to depend on seniors for its fund needs. And Mr.Suganthan was pretty happy that he and his mates had succeeded in organizing this grand event in a great scale though they had quite an amount of criticisms.
Then Mr.S.Mayuran, the founder of Youth wing and the founder of the Alumni fiesta, had requested to share some words with the audience. And Mr.Mayuran pointed out the effort taken by 2006 and other batches to organize this event in Jaffna in a great scale. And he exposed his satisfaction on his idea of forming a young troop for the great college and making a school-time-memory-recall event.
Mr.K.Seveal, the main sponsor of the event, addressed the audience with some happy news to Youth Wing. He stated that he will be supporting youth wing in any sort of its activity towards the college. And he wanted to see the Youth Wing organizing the next Alumni Fiesta in even grand scale inviting all Old boys of Our College. And which was also received a warm welcome request by the crowd.
Then our college principal had been invited for his address. He really welcomed the effort done to bring the youngsters into action. And he stated that youngsters’ man power is the most important one than generating fund from youngsters. He was really happy to see that much recent pass out students, whom all probably passed out during his period, assembled in the name of Jaffna Hindu College.
Then the treasurer of the Old Boys Association, Jaffna, Mr.Ganesarajah, was invited for his address. And he wished all the old students and he stated that he will be supporting to the future editions of the Alumni Fiesta.
And that was the end of addressing as well as the formal events of the agenda.
The next event was the fun activities in which Alumni Fiesta-2011 gained a great welcome by everyone. Everybody assembled in that hall were requested to get into groups according to their House names which they represented during their schooling- Sellathurai, Kasippillai,Nagalingam, Sabapathy and Pasupathy.
What a wonder! All 350 people got into groups within seconds. And they all were ready for the fun which they had already started to enjoy by expecting. There were some guests and they all went into their groups along with the recent school leavers. It was really nice to see all age group old students feel them as old student beyond their age gab and generation gab (which is the success of Youth Wing). Then all were asked to elect a leader for their houses and were instructed to elect a senior guest as their leaders. And they ended up with the following.
Sellathurai-Mr.Ganesarajah (Principal).
Kasippillai-Mr.K.Seveal.
Nagalingam-Mr.M.Arulkumaran.
Sabapathy-Mr.S.Thayalan.
Pasupathy-Mr.S.Yogeswaran.
And then they all were asked to elect a House captain and were instructed to elect a young one. (The instructions were given to suit their plans of the activities).
Then all house leaders were asked to come forward for a fun based interview. And all house leaders opened their heart and they just went back to their school life. And they all talked about the funny things and their naughtiest activities when they were in their schooling. When principal was given the mic, everyone in the hall gave him a big hand of applause to expose their curiosity of seeing their principal as a student like them all. And principal responded well by saying “When I was a student, I had all qualities to be a student like you all”. Apart from that he was asked some fun related questions and his answers were very interesting.
Then Mr.Thayalan had given the mic and, as everyone know, he is a fun based Legend by his nature. But, though he talked some funny things happened during his school period, he had been asked some serious questions which would be considered as very useful to the current students and administrators of our school. He gave good facts based on his own experience he had. He asked the students not to involve in multiple sports games rather than he wanted each student to concentrate only one sport and the studies. And he stated that would only bring better sports career to the student as well as to the school. And he also asked the administration to keep the coaching and giving practice to every team throughout the year rather than making it seasonal training camps. And Mr.Thayalan recalled the memory of one our Historical record, that he captained SriLanka Football team once in his career. All these talks were in question and answer pattern while principal and many other Old Boys Association members were in the audience table.
And there were even more fun talks and stories from the history of our college which were to be enjoyed and are not healthy to be passed as news.
Following that, the announcers invited all house captains and gave identical fun topics to them and gave one minute to prepare for a 5 minute speech. Those topics were really interesting and funny. And everyone out there was enjoying.
The next event was fancy dress contests. Veshti & Salvai + Saree&blouse were given to each house and each house had to send a couple dressed as a Male and a Female. And that fancy dress event was also very interesting and joyful. Every one of us were enjoying and wondering about our guys acting as a couple. And simply it was amazing.
As the last fun activity and official event, a well dressed teacher (indicating a female teacher with a saree) walked into the hall and entertained everyone. And everyone was congratulating the boy’s acting as a female.
Following those entire fun events, they ended their official events of the Alumni Fiesta-2012 with a thanksgiving message by the announcers and all were invited to have their Dinner and Dj to be followed. The announcers also announced about the inauguration of the Cricket Fiesta on the very next day at our School Ground.
And the Dj lasted till 09.30 Pm. And every one had a wonderful night and felt proud to be a Hinduite.
And now everyone’s expectation is about 2013 and Alumni Fiesta-III as a youth-wing event in which all youth minded old boys of Jaffna Hindu College from the past 100 years as participants.
